Ivanissevich inguinal approach for varicocele in pediatric patients

Abstract

  

Objective: The aim of this study was to show the results about the surgical correction of varicocele using the Ivanissevich approach and to describe the basis of this technique. Methods: A prospective study was made in the Pediatric Hospital Jose Luis Miranda in patients with varicocele in the understood period of May of the 2012 until December of the 2012. The sample was constituted by 22 patients. Were analized the age of patients, testicular volumen before and after surgery, symptoms after surgery, elimination of venous dilation, testicular atrophy, residual hidrocele, and recidivism of varicocele. Results: The most frequent clinical finding after surgery was orchitis, the venous dilation was absent after surgery, no testicular atrophy or recidivism were reported and the testicular volume of the afected testicle was recovered. Conclusion: The inguinal Ivanissevich approach is a safe method for the correction of varicocele in pediatric patients with good results if we follow the correct basis of technique.
